Shandong Steel Exceeds 2,000 Tonnes of High-Strength Shipbuilding Plate Supply

Shandong Iron & Steel’s Jinan Steel City base has surpassed cumulative deliveries of 2,000 tonnes of 40kg-grade high-strength shipbuilding and offshore engineering steel plates. Recently, more than 800 tonnes of AH40 and DH40 grades were shipped in batches to a major domestic customer.

China’s shipbuilding and offshore equipment sectors are entering a new growth cycle, with national data showing sustained increases in vessel completions, new orders and order backlogs. Against this backdrop, Shandong Steel has accelerated the upgrade of its product portfolio toward higher-strength and higher-value shipbuilding steels.

The Steel City base now offers a full range of shipbuilding and offshore plates, covering strength grades from A up to EH690, meeting the needs of high-end vessels and offshore platforms. To promote market adoption of high-strength products, the technical team adopted a “technology-first, service-forward” approach, starting with small-volume trial orders and providing close technical support to customers.

Through optimized chemical composition design and refined control of steelmaking, rolling and accelerated cooling processes, the products achieved first-pass success and quickly transitioned into stable batch production. Reliable performance and timely delivery have driven continued growth in high-end shipbuilding and offshore steel orders, reinforcing Shandong Steel’s position in the marine steel market.
